The 2018 Jesuit GALA will gather hundreds of Jesuits and friends to celebrate and support the work of the Society and our partners in mission. This year’s event also recognizes Brendan and Kerry Swords, who will receive the Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Award for personifying the Ignatian tradition of giving selflessly of themselves to others for the Greater Glory of God.

Brendan has deep Jesuit roots through a distinguished and influential history of family involvement with the College of Holy Cross, beginning with his uncle, Rev. Raymond Swords, S.J., who served as its 28th president from 1960 to 1970.  Father Swords also led Regis High School in New York City, the Cranwell Preparatory School in Lenox, Massachusetts and Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine. Brendan and his three brothers all received their undergraduate degrees from the College of the Holy Cross and Brendan received an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Kerry is also Jesuit educated, graduating from Boston College in 1993, and later receiving her MBA from Harvard Business School.  She is involved with many influential Boston-area philanthropies, among them currently serving as a Trustee of Nativity Preparatory School in Jamaica Plain, a Jesuit-run middle school serving boys from low-income families throughout the city.

Brendan and Kerry are active and generous supporters of many Jesuit and Catholic organizations and ministries in the area, giving their time, talents and financial resources and demonstrating true leadership on behalf of Catholic philanthropy. Brendan is a former Board member at Nativity Prep and is currently on the Board of the Campaign for Catholic Schools and the Executive Council of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund. In addition to Kerry’s role on the Executive Committee of the Nativity Prep Board and as a member of The Winsor Corporation, she is co-chair of the MGHfC Advisory Board and is also a member of UNICEF New England’s regional board. She recently completed 5 years of service on The Park School board of trustees. Kerry has co-chaired many Boston fundraising Galas including: the Green and White Ball for the Friends of the Public Garden, the MGH Storybook Ball and the UNICEF Boston Gala. Kerry is active in numerous other organizations and committees and has served as a committee member for Camp Harborview’s Beach Ball and Big Sister Association’s Big Night event, among others.
