The 2026 Jesuit Gala

April 30, 2026
6:00 PM - 9:00 PM EST
Boston Hilton Park Plaza 50 Park Plaza Boston, MA 02116

Please join us to support the works of the Jesuits and celebrate our 2026 Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam Award recipients: Fr. William Leahy, SJ, president of Boston College and Fr. Joseph McShane, SJ, president emeritus of Fordham University!

Both of these Jesuits have led their respective institutions with unwavering dedication, guiding their communities with wisdom, compassion, and vision. As shepherds of their institutions, they fostered environments where students, faculty and staff felt supported and inspired to grow. Their leadership not only shaped the direction of their universities but also left a profound impact on the lives they touched. For their steadfast commitment and transformative influence, we are proud to honor them.

Honorees

Fr. William Leahy, SJ, has served as the 25th President of Boston College since 1996, making him the longest-serving president in the university’s history. Fr. Leahy entered the Society of Jesus in 1967, holds a B.A. in philosophy and an M.A. in U.S. history from Saint Louis University, theological degrees including an M.Div. and M.T.S. from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, and earned his Ph.D. in U.S. history at Stanford University in 1986. Under his leadership, Boston College has expanded its academic stature, grown its endowment, embarked on major construction and strategic planning initiatives, and deepened its identity as a leading Jesuit-Catholic research university.

Fr. Joseph McShane, SJ, served as the 32nd President of Fordham University from 2003 to 2022, following his presidency at University of Scranton (1998-2003). A graduate of Boston College (B.A., M.A.), he was ordained in 1977 after earning degrees in divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, and later completed a Ph.D. in the history of Christianity at the University of Chicago in 1981. During his tenure at Fordham, he advanced a strategic plan to enhance the university’s standing among Catholic institutions by strengthening scholarship, growing its graduate and professional programs, and harnessing its New York City location as a Jesuit-driven asset.
