In Memoriam

Jesuit Brother Gilbert J. Scott died on Jan. 6, 2016, at Murray-Weigel Hall in Bronx, New York. He was 89 years old.

Br. Scott was born in Orange, New Jersey, on Feb. 22, 1926. He was the son of Robert and Genevieve (Buchmann) Scott. He attended Seton Hall Prep High School and then Seton Hall University. In 1952, he entered the Society of Jesus at St. Andrew on Hudson in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Br. Scott was Care of House and then Assistant Director of Jesuit Seminary and Mission Bureau (JSMB) at St. Ignatius Residence until 1963. At St. Ignatius Residence, he became Director of Vocations and later Director of Negotiations Office JSMB. In 1982, Br. Scott was Assistant to the Provincial at Kohlmann Hall in Fordham and then Subminister until 1995. In 1995, he returned to St. Ignatius Residence where he was Assistant to the Provincial and then later became Hospitality Minister at Province Infirmary at Loyola Hall in Fordham. In 2002, Br. Scott celebrated his Golden Jubilee in the Society. He spent the remainder of his life at Murray-Weigel Hall where he continued his hospitality ministry and was missioned to the work of praying for the Church and the Society.
