Rejoice in Jesuits Answering the Call!

Dear Friends in Christ,

As some of you may know, the process has already begun for the beatification and canonization for Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ, who served as the 28th Superior General of the Society of Jesus from 1965 to 1983. This humble man, who witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of Hiroshima the day the bomb hit, dedicated his life to serving those on the margins. Fr. Arrupe’s call as Superior General was a simple yet inspiring one—the service of faith and the promotion of justice. This mission is truly at the heart of what it means to be a Jesuit. We are called to dedicate our lives to a faith that does justice, to educate men and women for others, and to find God in all things.

This vocation of complete commitment to others and to the Church gives us great cause for rejoicing. In June, the Maryland and USA Northeast Provinces will celebrate the ordinations of Jesuits who have answered the call to live the life that Fr. Arrupe hoped for them—a life of service to the People of God. Our two East Coast provinces have more than 40 young men preparing to do the same. Their formation journey guides them through ten years of study, service and spiritual direction, all to help fortify their call with the foundation that St. Ignatius established nearly 500 years ago.

Your generous gifts allow our Jesuit scholastics to realize their call for Christ and enable them to complete their formation so that they are fully prepared to serve the Church in these challenging times. Fr. Pedro Arrupe once said, “What you are in love with—what seizes your imagination—will affect everything.” Our Jesuits in formation know the joy of following Jesus and His call to zealous service of others. We are so very thankful to you for partnering with us in support of their mission.

We pray that the upcoming Easter season may fill your heart with the joy of our Risen Lord.

Sincerely,
