Preparing men who are pursuing a call to become priests or brothers in the Society of Jesus is one of our most important missions. These Jesuits—these future pastors, educators and companions in mission—are following in the steps of St. Ignatius and in his desire “to give, and not count the cost.” They have chosen to dedicate their entire lives to God in service of the gospel and the Church, relying always on the grace of Christ and the support of the Society and our friends and benefactors.
Today, it costs almost $50,000 a year to support each Jesuit in formation—a process that usually takes ten or eleven years. Last year, the Maryland and USA Northeast Provinces ordained five new Jesuits to the priesthood, and we will ordain four more this coming June. In August 2019, we welcomed nine novices into our novitiate, one of our largest groups in recent years.
We humbly ask for your prayers and support for these Jesuits who have answered the call of the Holy Spirit, and we pray that this Easter season will fill your heart with the joy of our Risen Lord.
