Fr. John Cecero, SJ, provincial of the USA Northeast Province, partnered with Loyola Productions this week to share three key moments of grace he has experienced during the ongoing 36th General Congregation.
More than 200 Jesuits have been gathered in Rome for the last four weeks, electing the Jesuits’ worldwide leader, Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ, the 31st Superior General of the Society of Jesus, and to evaluate the mission and direction of world’s largest religious order.
Fr. Cecero spoke about the humility exuded by Fr. Adolfo Nicolás – the 30th Superior General - during and after his resignation, went on to describe the election process of Nicolás’ successor and reflected on the special session that took place on Oct. 24, when Pope Francis visited the delegates.
“Pope Francis fielded questions spontaneously from us for over an hour…and [these were] really questions about our life,” Fr. Cecero said. “He emphasized discernment, so in the wake of his visit we are spending these days trying to think about how what he said will inform what we say to the whole Society, which I find is a great confirmation of the direction that I am hoping to go in our province and, I think, throughout the Society. It’s a very consoling time, and I’m very happy to be here.”
