Giving Tuesday Benefits Senior Jesuits and Formation

Dec. 6, 2017 - Friends, parishioners and graduates of Jesuit schools helped the USA Northeast Jesuits launch its first successful #GivingTuesday campaign, raising $9,197 in support of senior Jesuits and Jesuits in formation.

#GivingTuesday is a giving movement built by individuals, organizations and communities around the globe. “Just as the Jesuits from our province are serving near and far, we received support from friends, graduates of Jesuit schools, parishioners and family members who took a few moments to acknowledge the ways the Jesuits have shaped their lives,” said James Skurka, interim provincial assistant for advancement and communications for the USA Northeast Province.

Funds from the one-day giving campaign will help the province care for Jesuits living at its two health care communities, Murray-Weigel Hall in the Bronx, and Campion Center, in Weston, Mass. Additionally, donor support from the campaign will help fund the Jesuit formation process, the thorough training Jesuits go through, which prepares them for service as an ordained priest or a religious brother.

“More than a dozen donors to the campaign took the opportunity to make their first gift to the Jesuits, so we’re particularly grateful for those who responded to this calling,” James Skurka said. “For those who have consistently supported the Jesuits generously, this hopefully was a nice chance for them to connect with our mission in a new way, and to share that connection with others.”
