June 1, 2015 – Fr. John Cecero, SJ, recently attended a colloquium for new Jesuit provincials at the General Curia in Rome. It was an opportunity to study and reflect on the community and apostolic commitments of provincials, collaborate with Father General Adolfo Nicolás, SJ, and view artifacts that belonged to St. Ignatius.

May 18, 2015 — On May 23, Pope Francis will beatify Archbishop Oscar Romero, who was shot and killed March 24, 1980, as he celebrated Mass in a hospital in San Salvador, El Salvador, during the country's civil war.
May 19, 2015 – Throughout the history of the Society of Jesus, Jesuit brothers have filled a variety of positions with a kind of fluidity which has been essential as their roles have changed over the years. They are worldly and go where the need is greatest, deeply rooted in the spirituality established by St. Ignatius Loyola.
May 14, 2015 – Brooklyn Jesuit Prep, a middle school which works to provide an exceptional education for students living in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, recently held another successful fundraiser.
May 1, 2015– On April 30, Fr. Joseph Dolan, SJ, the oldest Jesuit in the USA Northeast Province died in Murray-Weigel Hall in the Bronx at age 98. Even well into his 90s, Fr. Dolan would continue to visit parishes to celebrate Masses until his age prevented him from traveling. More on his life and service here.
April 30, 2015 – Fr. Gregory Sharkey, SJ, a Jesuit of the USA Northeast Province, spent many years in Nepal. As professor at Kathmandu University’s Centre for Buddhist Studies, Fr. Sharkey is witnessing the aftermath of this week's devastating earthquake and the ensuing relief efforts.
April 29, 2015 — A 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25 killed more than 4,300 people and destroyed centuries-old temples and thousands of homes. The Midwest Jesuits, who share a special relationship with the Jesuits of Nepal, are receiving donations to provide relief and assistance.
April 23, 2015 – Fr. David S. Ciancimino, SJ, was named Canisius High School's 35th president. The Canisius High School Board of Trustees and the Jesuit Board of Members unanimously approved his appointment, and he will begin his duties as president at the 145-year-old institution June 1, 2015.
April 22, 2015 – Forty years ago at Wheeling Jesuit University, Bishops and concerned Catholic community members gathered on campus to formally announce the release of “This Land is Home to Me: A Pastoral Letter on Powerlessness in Appalachia." The document has had a tremendous impact on the direction of Jesuit ministries in Appalachia.
H.E. Asterio R. Takesy, Federated States of Micronesia ambassador to the U.S. (a 1963 graduate of Xavier High School in Chuuk), is serving as honorary chairman for Xavier's typhoon relief efforts. April 20, 2015 – Members of three New York City based Jesuit institutions met with the legislative staffs of state senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer to advocate for several pressing faith-justice issues. Students from Xavier High School joined parishioners from the Church of St. Francis Xavier and St. Ignatius Loyola Parish to meet with the senators and voice their concerns over environmental justice, human trafficking, immigration reform, and supplemental nutrition programs.
April 17, 2015 – In addition to attending class four days a week, Cristo Rey New York High School senior Carlos Belmont works one day at the Rockefeller Foundation as part of his school’s work-study program; Dan Dixon, SJ, profiled Carlos to see what life is like for a business savvy 17-year-old aspiring coder.
April 16, 2015 – Two Catholic leaders from New York City will be part of Le Moyne College’s 65th commencement celebration, where they will receive honorary degrees. They are Timothy Cardinal Dolan, the archbishop of New York, who will present the commencement address, and Fr. David Ciancimino, SJ, the former provincial of the New York Province of the Society of Jesus.
April 14, 2015 – On May 4, St. Aloysius School, a Pre-K through 8th grade independent Jesuit school in Harlem, will honor the work of John Duffy and Fr. James Keenan, SJ, during their 23rd annual scholarship dinner, "Supporting the Future of St. Aloysius School."
More than 920 friends and Jesuits helped make the 2015 Jesuit GALA a very special evening, recognizing the work of the Society, and honoring Cardinal Seán P.
