News Story

Dear Friends,

I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even though he dies. – John 11:25

These words of Jesus are some of the most hopeful given us and can be especially consoling as we get older. Our resurrected Savior provides the way for us to be resurrected with Him when we pass from this life to eternal life.

The USA East Province of the Society of Jesus has nearly 200 Jesuits in their senior years residing at one of our four Jesuit healthcare centers—Campion Center near Boston, Murray-Weigel Hall in the Bronx, Manresa Hall in Philadelphia, and Colombiere in Baltimore. These Jesuits, who spent a lifetime serving others and the Catholic Church, are now missioned to pray for the Church and for the Society of Jesus. Some even continue part-time pastoral work for local Jesuit schools and parishes. The many institutions they served throughout their active ministries do not provide the support needed for their ongoing care later in life. This falls solely on the shoulders of the Province. And as always, the good work of the Province is only possible through the continued support of our friends and benefactors. These Jesuits in their advanced years, our young men in formation, our many ministries here on the East Coast and abroad, all rely on your generous support.

On behalf of our senior Jesuits, I thank you for all you do to support Jesuits USA East and for their ongoing healthcare. I pray that you and your family are blessed with good health and that the upcoming Easter season renews your spirit in the risen Lord.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Joseph M. O’Keefe, SJ
