Letter from Father Provincial Joseph O’Keefe, SJ, on the Passing of Pope Francis

April 21, 2025
Easter Monday

Dear Friends in the Lord,

Father Joseph O’Keefe, SJ, with Pope Francis at the 36th General Congregation, October 2016.

We all mourn the loss of Pope Francis, a good shepherd, especially in the challenging times we face in our nation and in the world.  Let us be grateful for his holy and prophetic leadership.  Let us honor him by committing ourselves with zeal and boldness to the mission he gave us: Showing the way to God through the Spiritual Exercises and discernment; Walking with the poor, the outcasts of the world, those whose dignity has been violated, in a mission of reconciliation; Accompanying young people in the creation of a hope-filled future; Care for our common home.

I invite you to remember him by watching this short video entitled:
The life of Pope Francis through the eyes of his Jesuit brothers

Pope Francis, may you now rest in the arms of God.  Pray for us, that we will have the faith and courage to carry your legacy forward.

Your brother in Christ,

Joseph M. O’Keefe, S.J.
Provincial
