May 5, 2022 – Fr. Francis Moy, SJ, was born on Nov. 14, 1938, in Greenwich, Conn., to Winifred (nee Tarpey) and Charles Moy. After attending Iona Prep School in Iona, N.Y., from 1952-1956, he attended Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., in 1956. It was here where he met the Jesuits as educators and after two years, he entered the Society of Jesus.

From 1958 to 1961, he was in Shadowbrook, the Jesuit novitiate in Lenox, Mass. In 1961, he began his philosophy studies at the West Jesuit Community in Cambridge, Mass. After completing his philosophy studies in 1964, Fr. Moy started his first assignment, teaching English at Fairfield College Prep in Fairfield Conn.

After two years of teaching, Fr. Moy continued his theology studies at the Weston Jesuit Community in Cambridge, Mass. In 1969, he finished his theology studies and worked at Cranwell Prep in Lenox, Mass., first as an educational counseling teacher, and then also as a psychology teacher.

In 1973, Fr. Moy started a series of assignments at Fairfield University. He started as the Asst. Dir. of Admissions until 1977. It was also during the summers of 1975 and 1976 he completed his tertianship. His next assignment at the university was campus minister, a role which he held for nine years. For the first half of 1986 he took a sabbatical and continued work in campus ministry when he returned and stayed until 1987.

Fr. Moy’s next assignment was as the assistant to the rector at the Weston Jesuit community. After two years at Weston, he moved to the America House Jesuit Community in New York City. He spent two years at America working as the ministry to Jesuit communications and serving in spiritual direction ministry.

For the majority of the rest of his time in the Society, Fr. Moy was involved in pastoral work. In 1991 he spent a year as the assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Ridgefield, Conn. From 1992-1999 he worked as the assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Greenwich, Conn. After a year-long sabbatical, Fr. Moy returned to parish work and spent four years as parochial vicar of St. Cecelia’s Parish, Stamford, Conn. In 2004 he spent two years at St Ignatius Church, Chestnut Hill, Mass., as parochial vicar. Fr. Moy continued to serve parishioners as a parochial vicar from 2006-2012 at St. Mary’s Parish, South Dartmouth, Mass. From 2012-2014 he worked at several parishes as a parochial vicar in East Falmouth, Mass.

Fr. Moy’s last assignment before going into assisted living was at Boston College High School doing pastoral ministry from 2014 to 2017.

In July 2017, Fr. Moy entered the Campion Health & Wellness — Rest Home (Assisted Living), in Weston, Mass. It is here where he lived and continued to pray for the Church and the Society. Fr. Moy passed away on April 29, 2022.
