"What makes me happy to be a religious today?"

My happiness as a religious is rooted in freedom, purpose, and fulfillment. I believe that through my religious life as a Jesuit God continues more and more to free me from the fears, hesitations, and inordinate attachments that limit my response to God's invitation to help out with what I notice God is doing in the world. And the best is yet to come!

I have a strong sense of purpose, which is to praise and serve God and God's people by sharing what I am and have and receiving what others are and have. This purpose is independent of any particular role, so that my identity is not wrapped up in being a teacher, a parish pastor, or any other job or position. I need not be burdened with achieving any particular outcome or productive result, which can be left to God whose world it is.

I enjoy a fulfilling life because I am a part of something greater than myself that is truly worthwhile: the mission of the Church and the Society of Jesus. This is worth the commitment of my life because it is not limited to the pursuits of this world. Becoming a Jesuit has been and continues to be the best decision I make. My happiness and the awe and wonder that my Jesuit religious life is not simply my doing lead me to a place of great gratitude to God.
