New Appointments and Leadership

Below are some of the recent appointments in our provinces:



Fr. Ronald J. Anton, SJ, was appointed the next superior of the Georgetown Jesuit Community, effective June 1, 2018. Fr. Anton is a senior advisor of executive education at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. He has worked in higher education for the Jesuits in Rome and assisted refugees on the Thai–Cambodian border.

Fr. James P. Carr, SJ, was appointed the next superior of the St. Ignatius Loyola Community in New York City, effective July 1, 2018. Before taking on his present mission as faculty chaplain at New York’s Loyola School, Fr. Carr served as director of novices and superior of St. Andrew Hall in Syracuse from August 2010 to August 2017.

Fr. Rodolfo Casals, SJ, was appointed assistant director for vocations for the Maryland and USA Northeast Provinces, effective July 31, 2018. Fr. Casals was ordained in 2017 and will finish a very successful first year of priestly service at St. Thomas More Parish in Atlanta.

Fr. James P. Croghan, SJ, will begin service as superior of the Boston College High School Jesuit Community on Aug. 15, 2018. Since December 2012, Fr. Croghan has served as rector of the Xavier Jesuit Community in New York City. He is also the provincial assistant for international ministries and the director of Ignatian identity at Regis High School.

Effective July 1, 2018, Kristin Cupillari will assume the position of principal at Scranton Prep. Ms. Cupillari has served as a teacher and administrator in Jesuit high schools for 25 years, including 6 years at Regis High School and 18 years at Loyola School, both in New York City. She has served this past year as Scranton Prep’s assistant principal.
  On Jan. 1, 2018, after serving in an interim capacity, Br. Christopher Derby, SJ, officially assumed the role as executive director of the Jesuit Center for Spiritual Growth in Wernersville, Pa. Br. Derby has worked in middle and secondary education and has also served as director of vocations for the Maryland and New York Provinces.
  Fr. Thomas H. Feely, SJ, will become superior of the Xavier Jesuit Community in New York City, effective Aug. 15, 2018. Father Feely has been the associate pastor at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in New York City since July 2013, previously serving as superior at Ciszek Hall and formation director for the Maryland, New York, and New England Provinces.
  Fr. Donald J. Kirby, SJ, was named superior of the Loyola Jesuit Residence in Syracuse, NY. Father Kirby served 17 years as founding director of the Center for the Advancement of Values Education at Le Moyne College, where he continues to be a professor of Christian ethics and theology. With his new appointment he will continue to balance scholarship and pastoral outreach as he guides the life and mission of the Jesuit community.
  Fr. Robert J. Levens, SJ, was named superior of the Portland Jesuit Community. He currently serves as the faculty chaplain at Cheverus High School and assists at Our Lady of Hope Parish in Portland, Maine. He previously served as provincial of the New England Province and more recently was superior at Campion Center in Weston, Mass.
  Effective this summer, Fr. Frederick J. Pellegrini, SJ, will begin service as superior of the Murray-Weigel-Kohlmann Community in the Bronx. Since 2012, he has served as rector of the St. Ignatius Community in New York City, while also serving as vocation promoter for the Maryland and USA Northeast Provinces.
